Elephant Seals

Just South of Piedras on Highway 1, Elephant Seals come on shore to warm themselves in the sun.
Seals are warm blooded. They have a layer of fat to help insolate them in the cold Ocean water
however, during the winter their flippers will get cold so they come to shore to warm in the sun.

They may look dead, but they are just getting warm. Every so often you'll see one flip sand on their back.

Here I saw one in the water swimming.
